Prologue
If you asked me when I was 10, "Where do you think you'll be 10 years from now?" I probably would have told you "studying to become a marine biologist," or "trying to become a choreographer." Basically, I thought I would be anywhere other than where I am now. As a college student studying at Rowan University I am still trying to figure out who I am and what I want my life to become. I imagined I would have it all already figure out. As a little kid you think you grow up and then BOOM - just like that you basically know who you and where your life is going. I wish it was that easy.
One of the things I learned about life is that it has 3 parts:
a past, a present, and a future
My past is what got me here to the present. The present is leading to my future. I don't know where I am in my life or where I am going, but I know this upcoming summer is going to bring:
1. Change
2. Memories 3. Experiences I know three things will happen in the summer of 2012: 1. I will move into a new house with my 3 friends 2. I will attend not only 1, but 2 weddings 3. I will (finally) be turning the big 21! Life’s all about moments of impact and how they change our lives forever.
Our hunt for houses began our sophomore year at Rowan University. We contacted a realtor, Liz Quam, who took us through whatever houses she still had available for the upcoming 2011-2012 school year. With no luck finding a house for our junior year we decided to live in Rowan Boulevard for a second year, big mistake. As a group of six girls we agreed we didn’t want to make that mistake again. The minute we got back to school this past September the hunt began yet again. This time we were looking for a house for 2012-2013, our senior year. After keeping in close contact with Liz she offered to show us more houses, one being a five bedroom, two bathroom house on Villanova Road.
The minute we saw this house, we knew we wanted it. It was a cozy rancher in a nice area of Glassboro. Although the living room and kitchen were small, there were five huge bedrooms, allowing plenty of room for two girls to share. With a never ending backyard and a spacey basement this was our ideal house. That night she sent us the lease, assuring us she wouldn’t show the house to anyone else. Within a few weeks all our parents had driven down to Rowan to tour the house and figure out what we would all be willing to pay. Liz had told our parents she would look over prices and let us know the lowest price she could rent this house to us. We were ecstatic! This was our house, or so we thought. A phone call later in the week brought a big surprise. Another group of girls went through the house with checks on them ready to sign the lease. Liz went against her word and gave our house away. We were furious, upset, in shock, and felt very much betrayed. There had to be something we could do, but it was too late. Another group of girls signed the lease and we were the last to know. This was supposed to be our house for senior year. Now what? Lucky #21Meet the Roommates

3 months away3 months before the proposal |
“Wanna know something?” The young blonde girl started to grin. I paused for a moment. Did I have a choice? She was probably going to tell me whether I wanted to know or not, “Yeah what’s-” I didn’t even get to finish my sentence before she squealed, “You can’t tell anyone.” Oh boy what could this be, “Okay I won’t,” I said. This is weird, I hardly know her. What could she possibly tell me..
“Mike’s proposing to Kelly in Costa Rica at the end of the summer!!!”
She talked so quickly I almost didn’t comprehend what she said. My mouth dropped in disbelief. That was the biggest secret I have ever been told. My heart started racing “oh my god,” is all I could say.

The month of the proposal

Jackie turns to speak Silence, like the drop of a pin Why is she being so mystique? |
Jackie: I have something to tell you, but you can't say anything.
I've heard that one before Me: Okay what is it? Jackie: You promise not to say anything to anyone? Me: Yes! What is it? Jackie: Mike's proposing to Kelly on this trip!!! Me: I know!!! |

Rebecca,
I don't know where the time has gone. It seems like just yesterday that we were celebrating your 5th birthday in our backyard. I remember when
Next thing I know, we're celebrating your sweet 16. My little baby was growing up right before my eyes. The time still didn't slow down because only two short years later we were sitting in the car together. This time I wasn't teaching you ....., I was teaching you how to parallel park for your driver's test. It brings tears to my eyes knowing what a lovely young woman you've become. Happy 21st birthday sweetie!

Love Always,
Mom xoxo
These moments and memories defy me. They shape me and make me into the person I will become someday. Although I am certain of some future "dates" in my life, I am uncertain of the journey. The rest is still unwritten...
