Is organic food more nutritious, safer* to eat, and tastier?
*by safer, we are referring to the use of pesticides and other chemicals while growing the product
In Writing, Research, and Technology our class watched a documentary called Food, Inc. Based off of this documantary by Robert Kenner, my classmates, Sam, Mickey, and I, have created a collaborative research project. This project investigates three common claims of organic food: Organic food is more nutritious, organic food is safer, and organic food is tastier. Those who don't eat organically might believe these claims are myths. Going into our research process, our perception of organic foods was the same as common food consumer. We thought that because food was labeled as "organic" that it was better. By better, we mean more nutritious, safer to eat, and tastier than normal foods. After sifting through our research, we found that is not necessarily the case. The topic of organic foods is not as black and white as most people think. Conflicting ideas, studies, and opinions leave a great deal of gray areas. For this reason, we decided to present our findings, and let the information speak for itself. This way, people can formulate their own opinions on eating organic.
Together, Sam, Mickey, and I, investigate three claims of organic foods.
We found our collaborative project to be both dialogical and hierarchical. Together we found an interviewee, collaborated on our main research topic, and figured out how we were going to organize our final collaborative piece. During class we also worked together completing parts of our final project together. This is where our project seemed more dialogical. However, it was also hierarchical because we found it hard to get together outside of class. All three of us were never on the same schedule. Since we are all so busy we also decided it would be easier to perform research and complete the annotated bibliography individually. Overall, it seems like we have been doing research individually, but have collaborated our ideas together.
Sam, Mickey, and I were inspired to research organic foods when our professor, Sabatino Mangini discussed the topic in class. We really thought there were benefits of eating organically. Therefore, we figured if we could inform consumers about eating organically maybe more would eat organic foods. We tried to remain as non-biased as possible during our research, but the information we found wound up changing our original thoughts on organic foods and influencing our project to become persuasive...
