We took a great deal of information away from this interview to use for our Collaborative Research Project. This information really jump started our research process by giving us a better understanding about the truth of organic foods. For example, our prior perception of organic food was that it is always better for you. Before this interview, we thought that organic foods were more nutritious, pesticide free, and tastier than the traditional non-organic food. We learned from Dr. DiRosa that foods such as chips, whether they are organic or not, is still a chip. It still contains all of the sodium, fat, and other "junk food" qualities that we thought you can avoid by eating snacks such as organic soy chips. In addition to the nutritional aspect of organic foods, we learned that all foods need pesticides. Sure organic food may contain less or different pesticides, but they are not completely free of chemicals. Finally, we learned that taste is all about personal preference. Dr. DiRosa said that she thinks some organic foods taste better and some don't. Overall, eating organically all depends upon the consumer.
Follow up Questions we would ask...
- Why did you choose to feed your first child organic baby food, but your second child non-organic food?
