"Detour" to the beach
Do guys ever know where they’re going? No. I was told to shut my mouth and stop being a back seat driver..fine. Let’s see how this drive goes. I slouched down in the seat and pretended not to care. No, I didn’t care one bit that it’s a quarter to 11, we’re lost, and still about an hour away from Ocean City beach..an hour! A drive, or “detour” as Jake called it, shouldn’t be this complicated. I was missing valuable bronzing time! After a few more wrong turns Jake paused, “Uh guys.” I looked out the window and groaned as I read the big blue sign. “Welcome To Atlantic City – Always Turned On!” Now I would have been perfectly fine with this so called “detour” to AC if I had been twenty-one. Believe me when I tell you being twenty is the worst age ever, longest year of your life. “No, Jake,” I said slowly, “I don’t want AC, I want the beach!” “What! Why? This is the best detour ever!” Needless to say I found myself roaming the Atlantic City outlets, while Jake gambled his life savings away. Instead of lying out on the beach, I was looking through racks of clothes I had no desire to wear. Jake, lets take another detour to the beach..oh wait.
Moral of the story
Never leave driving up to guys, they will get you lost. And if you get me lost..I will never let you live it down. Oh, and being twenty SUCKS!
A Summer of Secrets
It was mid-May and I was working the summer orientations at Rowan University. I had randomly met an incoming freshman and we started talking; turned out that her older brother had been dating a close family friend of mine for years. It’s crazy how you meet people like that. Small world, huh?
“Wanna know something?” The young blonde girl started to grin. I paused for a moment. Did I have a choice? She was probably going to tell me whether I wanted to know or not, “Yeah what’s-” I didn’t even get to finish my sentence before she squealed, “You can’t tell anyone.” Oh boy what could this be, “Okay I won’t,” I said. This is weird, I hardly know her. What could she possibly tell me..
“Mike’s proposing to Kelly in Costa Rica at the end of the summer!!!”
She talked so quickly I almost didn’t comprehend what she said. My mouth dropped in disbelief. That was the biggest secret I have ever been told. Wait, did I hear that right? Mike’s proposing? Kelly is my close family friend. I tell her and her family everything..what am I going to do. What am I going to say. Decisions, decisions, decisions. I’m going to be around Kelly for the rest of the summer, this could be a recipe for disaster. I have to keep this secret for three long months! I’m not that great at keep secrets, shit. My heart started racing “oh my god,” is all I could say.
