Just like the computer helps me, so does my cell phone. Teachers shouldn’t be such sticklers with cell phones during college classes. As long as students don’t abuse the privilege, I feel cell phones are necessary. Taking a second or two during class to check my phone for mixed calls or text messages allows just the right amount of distraction I need. In fact, I feel like I become even more distracted when I can’t use my cell phone. My mind wanders. “I wonder what time it is," “I hope no one important texted me,” or “I wish I could check my phone,” are all I seem to think about.
If anything technology doesn’t distract, but instead delivers a new kind of education to students. With Facebook and Twitter I know what is going on in the world. Yes, a lot of it can be unimportant information like who broke up with whom or who is rooting for the giants in this upcoming Super bowl (aka me!). However, through technology I am learning as well. I can collaborate with peers, create conversations with anyone, and surf the web for all kinds of various information.
